Is Windows 8 Up for the Tablet Challenge?

Microsoft is betting big on tablets with the upcoming release of Windows 8. The new tiles interface for Windows is build specifically for tablets and shows that Microsoft is taking the tablet threat to desktop computers very seriously. They have also moved away from a strictly Intel processor base and are releasing Windows 8 versions for ARM processors. This is a huge move for Microsoft, but one that might backfire as well.

You see, the Windows 8 ARM edition, while it will run Windows 8, with its fancy interface and probably MS Office, it will not be capable of running legacy Windows apps. This may come as a big surprise for business executives who are paying a big premium to have Windows on their tablets. When their company business software doesn't work on the ARM version of Windows, executives may lose faith in Microsoft all together. After all, if the new version of Windows can't run their business critical apps, what good is it? Check out this cool table that shows the most popular tablets on the market right now. Do you think that Windows 8 tablets will be able to complete with these Android tablets which sell for a much cheaper price?
